Wildfires and other emergencies can develop quickly, and conditions may change before or during an evacuation. Del Mar’s narrow streets, constrained routes in some neighborhoods, closely spaced homes, and seasonal visitors make advance planning especially important.

Use the official resources below to sign up for emergency alerts, understand evacuation information, prepare a go-bag, and make a plan for every member of your household, including pets and anyone who may need extra assistance. During an emergency, always follow instructions from public-safety agencies.

Plan for Pets and People

Plan ahead for children, older adults, people with medical or mobility needs, and anyone who may need extra time or assistance evacuating. Include medications, medical equipment, accessible transportation, emergency contacts, and a backup person who can help.

Prepare carriers, leashes, food, medications, identification, and a safe destination for pets because not all emergency shelters accept animals.

Red Flag & High-Wind Conditions

Red Flag Warnings and strong winds can create conditions in which wildfire starts easily and spreads quickly.

When elevated fire weather is forecast, take a few extra precautions before conditions worsen.

Secure or move combustible outdoor items away from your home.
Avoid activities that could create sparks.
Charge phones and backup batteries, and review your evacuation plan and go-bags.
Monitor alerts and prepare for possible power shutoffs.
